Arm's of Kyiv

After taking possession of Kyiv by Russia, Archangel Michael was officially replaced on Kyiv arms. The arms are confirmed 4 June 1782. On azure field there is Michael Archangel dressed silver clothes, with fiery sword in his hand. In 1851 in obedience to order of Nicolas I on arms of provinces, regions and big towns the Empire Crown had to be pictured. Since the Kyiv arms have such a crown. 12 may 1864 B. Kene developed a project of new town arms: on azure field Archangel Michael in silver clothes. A Shield is adorned by tsar's cap of Monomakh crown shape appearance and enframed by two golden wheat ears, joint Oleksandr ribbon. 3 february 1917 Oleksandr ribbon is changed to Volodimirska black-red-black one. In Ukrainian People's Republic times G. Narbut developed new arms of the capital of Ukraine. It was a combination of two age-old arms. On the shield of Archangel there was a golden trident as the state capital symbol. In May 1995 a session of Kyiv municupal Rada made a decision about making restitution of historic arms with Michael Archangel for Kyiv.
