Kyiv is the capital of independent Ukraine, its important cultural and historical center.

The square of Kyiv as a city is 827 km2, over 42 % of its square has been built on.

Reservoirs, parks and green plantations consist the most part of Kyiv territory

The unit of the green plantation for every inhabitant is 214 km 2, that is one of the best index over the world

 

The population of Kyiv is 2630,4 thousand people (01.01.97).

The variety of natural conditions of Kyiv is a result of its placing on the joint of natural and geographical zones. They are the forest- steppe and mixed forests.

Kyiv is situated on the both of the banks of the Dnipro river, in its middle current down the mouth of the river Desna that is its left tributary.

There are 41 objects of the natural reserve fund, 9 parks that are monuments of park art in Kyiv.

Kyiv led off by placing the reports on the environment situation in Ukrainian cites in Internet.

This project will provide receiving the environmental information by the Ukrainian society, taking an active part in the solution of the ecological solves by the general public. It helps to improve the environmental situation of the Ukrainian cities in accordance to world standards.

Every society ought to care of its forests, rivers, lakes, landscapes and biological variety to improve its life and to hand the natural beauty and the safe environment as the most expensive thing down the next generation.

Kyiv care of the purity of its big and small rivers, lakes, parks and streets.

Kyiv municipal council every year sets the funds from the municipal budget to reserving of the green plantation, parks, reserve territories, purifying of the reservoirs and providing the inhabitants by pure drinking water.

In 1998 year Kyiv municipal council opens 53 sources of artesian wells.

Objective information on the environmental situation in Kyiv is placed in Internet. It helps many people in the world to be interested in history and culture of Kyiv and Ukraine and to desire to visit the beautiful city on the banks of the Dnipro river.

Kyiv municipal council supports the Internet Cities Environmental Information Project that was initiated by the International Council of the Municipal Natural Protection Initiatives and the Environmental Protection Program of the UNO (pages about Kyiv).

It is a good information and comprehension of the problem of the environment protection that can make people to do their best to improve the ecological situation of every city, settlement and village.
